Messy Church!!
We meet on the last Sunday morning of every month from 10 am until 12 noon.
MESSY CHURCH 28th February 2010
The theme for our February Messy Church was 'Lent- preparing for Easter'.
We began the morning by playing some team games, for the first we had to roll a dice, run to the end of the hall, and depending on the number on the dice had to suck up individually, using a straw, that amount of Smarties from one container and drop them into another. At the end of the game, each team was awarded some Smarties to eat.
The next game was to throw a bean bag into a bucket, collect a piece of jigsaw and once all the pieces had been collected, do the jigsaw - almost a dead heat but not quite!
Finally each team was given a paper plate which they had to balance on a squash racquet and, whilst blindfolded, but with the spoken guidance of another team member, had to make their way to the finishing line via a row of cones and skittles impeding their progress! What fun - and what competitive Messy Church kids we've got!
We had five craft stations on offer again this month - the first one was to make a Lent scroll with their own thought out and written promise on it to either give up or take on something for the rest of the Lenten period. Next was feet painting, yes that's right, painting directly onto everyone's feet and then standing on card to leave their painted foot imprint! These we are going to cut out and make a border for our Notice Board in the Youth hall to show that we are followers of Jesus. This definitely won the award for the most Messy activity and the heroes who supervised it were our own Inspire team - well done girls!
We also made woven palm leaves which can be used to either decorate their bedroom walls or used as place mats. We had a bit of dab art going on too - that's using various items e.g. sponge shapes, cotton wool ball and buds to dab paint the Christian symbol of the fish to show that we are believers of Jesus. Finally everyone made some delicious Lent Biscuits - some of which were sold to raise funds for Messy Church at coffee after morning service. Thank you to everyone who helped us to raise some much needed funds - we hope you enjoyed the biscuits!
At the end of the morning Tim explained what Lent was all about with the aid of a contemporary story and everyone was given a tube of Smarties to take home to eat and then challenged to fill the tube with money which we intend to send off to Haiti in response, in a small way, to the appeal following the massive earthquake they have recently suffered.
Finally as both Jenny and James Hodson have birthdays coming up this week we had a little celebration complete with chocolate birthday cake!
Our next Messy Church will be on Sunday 28th March which will be Palm Sunday.
