Messy Church!!

We meet on the last Sunday morning of every month from 10 am until 12 noon.

CHRISTMAS MESSY NATIVITY
18th December 2011

Messy Church and Sunday School joined together for the third consecutive year to produce another fantastic Nativity service. It was wonderful to see such a full church at our most special service of the year. The church was set out with tables and chairs so that all who wanted to could join in with the crafts which were on offer during the course of the morning.

We thought about the busyness of Christmas with all the preparation that goes on beforehand leading up to Christmas Day itself. As well as singing some favourite carols we introduced a new one – ‘Under a Star’. Everyone joined in with the spirit of the morning by joining in with the singing as well as the crafts we had planned. In total we had five crafts with each pair of tables doing a different one. We made concertina Christmas Cards in the shape of a candle with the words ‘Jesus is the Light of the World’ on, another table made Christmas crackers complete with hat, snap, joke and a toy! A third table made felt Christmas stockings to hang on their tree, a fourth made Christmas tree calendars with the final pair of tables doing some non-cook cooking! They made Chocolate yule logs and Snowmen cakes.

Once the crafts had been cleared away we sat back to listen to the Christmas story and watch the children as they re-enacted it. Each one of them was brilliant and there were several smiles from the congregation when the Wise Men entered accompanied by little Tom who was dressed as a camel! Mary (aka Beth) also raised a laugh when she dropped baby Jesus into the manger head first! Isn’t it always the way that the little things that go wrong are always the ones we remember?! No matter how often we hear the Christmas story it always makes us think anew of that first Christmas night and the real meaning of Christmas - Jesus IS the Reason for the Season!

After the service we stayed on for refreshments and there was a chance to chat whilst the children changed out of their costumes. All the children in Messy Church, Sunday School and Inspire received a gift of a selection box as our special thank you to them. Thank you to everyone who came along to our Nativity service and gave their support and encouragement to the children – we do appreciate it!

Our next Messy Church will be on  Sunday 29th January back in our usual venue, the Youth Hall – everyone is very welcome to join us. All the leaders, children and young people would like to wish everyone a very happy New Year for 2012. We pray it will be a year filled with God’s love, peace and many blessings.
